What data we collect

To provide bin collection reminders, we collect:

  • Your postcode and house number (to look up your bin schedule)
  • Your phone number OR email address (to send reminders)
  • Your preferred reminder time
  • An optional property title and guest bin notes, if a host adds them

The property title and notes are stored with the subscription and displayed to anyone with its household link or QR code. The host can edit or delete them using the private management link. When a new property address is accepted, the saved title and notes are cleared.

When you choose Locate me on the global homepage, your browser asks for permission to report your device’s position. The map shows the reported position and an accuracy circle; location accuracy varies. The exact coordinates stay in the page’s memory and are used there only to suggest a country, centre the map on this position and list nearby area guides. Street-map images are requested directly by your browser from OpenStreetMap, which receives your IP address, BinMinder’s site origin and the approximate map area shown by the requested tiles. BinMinder does not put your coordinates in the URL, store them, send the coordinate value to its server or to OpenStreetMap as a location request, or use it for analytics or address lookup. Clearing your location removes it from the map. You must still enter and check the property’s exact address separately.

How we use your data

We use your data solely to:

  • Look up your bin collection schedule from your local council
  • Send you reminders before bin collection days via SMS, email, or WhatsApp
  • Include relevant offers from partner services alongside your reminders
  • Improve our service (anonymised usage statistics)

Who we share data with

We do not sell your data. We share data only with:

  • Twilio — to send SMS and WhatsApp messages
  • Amazon SES / SendGrid — to send emails
  • Awin — affiliate tracking network. When you click a partner offer in your reminder, Awin records the click anonymously using a cookie. We do not share your personal data with Awin.
  • Photon / OpenStreetMap — to suggest international addresses while you type. We send the address fragment and selected country from our server; we do not pass your IP address to Photon. You can use manual entry instead.

Affiliate offers and tracking

Our reminders may include offers from partner services (e.g. food delivery, meal kits). If you click these links, a cookie may be set by our affiliate partner (Awin) to track the referral. This tracking is anonymised and does not include your personal data. You are never required to click these links.

Your rights (GDPR)

You have the right to:

  • Access your data - contact us to request a copy
  • Correct your data - update via your dashboard
  • Delete your data - unsubscribe and we'll remove your data
  • Withdraw consent - unsubscribe at any time

How to unsubscribe

  • SMS: Reply STOP to any reminder
  • WhatsApp: Reply STOP to any message
  • Email: Click the unsubscribe link in any email
  • Dashboard: Use the unsubscribe button

Data retention

We keep your data while your subscription is active. After unsubscribing, we delete your data within 30 days, except for anonymised statistics.

Cookies

We use Google Analytics to measure how public pages are used. Google receives cookieless measurements while storage is denied and stores Analytics cookies only when the consent choice allows it. We also use essential cookies for features you request. Affiliate links may set third-party cookies when you follow them.

Legal basis (PECR)

We send notifications based on your explicit consent (opt-in) when you sign up. You can withdraw consent at any time by unsubscribing.
